Portrait mode issue when using the "Selfie Photo Mirror" option on the front selfie camera.

2020-02-27, 1:33 AM

When using Portrait Mode, the image will detect you or an object and blur the background, and it works pretty well.  But, if you have "Selfie Mirror Mode" enabled, it flips the image.  This wouldn't be a problem but the issue is that it doesn't flip the blur filter after it takes the photo.  So you end up with photographs that have a blur effect in odd places in the image since the picture is flipped but the blur filter is not.

Was wondering if someone could let the Camera App team know about this, so they could release a fix?  It's not a massive issue, but I feel it's still an important one.

Hello Balrighty,

We would like to look into this further. Can you please provide us sample photos showing the Blur effect?

Best regards,
Zeke

Since it's the selfie cam, the blur only shows up properly with a face so I took a couple using portrait mode with selfie photo mirror enabled on the settings and it doesn't flip the blur, just the image..

Hi Balrighty,

Thank you so much for providing the sample photos. We'll have it sent to our camera team to have it investigated and fix.

Yeah, we dropped the ball on this. I found where it had been reported but don't see any feedback. I've asked for someone to take a look.

However, I can't reproduce this. Does this happen every time? Can you do it at will? Are there settings or steps I need to make it show like this?

Yea it happens every time. It only occurs on the selfie cam, and you have to enable "Selfie Photo Mirror" in the options. Then when you go to apply a blur in portrait selfie mode, and take the picture. The image is mirrored like its suppose to be, but the blur is not mirrored. It's like the "Selfie Photo Mirror" option ignores flipping the blur with the image.

Disabling "selfie photo mirror" fixes the problem, but I like using that option.. so it still needs to be fixed.

Also, it works fine in live mode, its once you take the picture that you notice the blur isn't flip in the final result.  You can tell by trying to add a color pop filter, and it'll show you the outline never flipped properly.

Hi.

Ah, thanks. This is much clearer. I wasn't testing it correctly. I'll do that and report.
