T460 Fan Accelerates loudly for 1-2 seconds on CPU Spikes

2016-05-17, 16:50 PM

I have a new T460 - whenever running a task that momentarily spikes the CPU usage (some heavy website loading for example) the fan accelerates to a very loud noise level for about 1 second and then immediately slows down.

It's extremely annoying to say the least - I'm pretty sure this cannot be an expected behaviour, everytime there is a spike in CPU usage.

I've read a similar post about the X1 that indicates it might be related to the bios version.

Lenovo support or anyone, do you know if a bios update is scheduled for the T460 to address this fan issue? Anyone else experiencing this?

Current using Bios 1.10

Looks like installing TPFanControl and setting it to Smart Mode 1 does the trick. Now I have a normal laptop thanks to this tool.

Not a long term solution though, this should definitely be addressed through some sort of update to the bios most likely.
