Lenovo ThinkPad E480 fingerprint reader stopped scanning

2018-10-10, 8:49 AM

Hi,

I have a ThinkPad E480 with Windows 10 Pro 64bit on it.

Obviously I want to use fingerprint reader which was working fine until today.

It was all fine in the morning. After a short brake when I got back to unlock it with my fingerprint
on the screen I saw the common error message: Couldn't recognise that fingerprint. Make sure you've set up your fingerprint in Windows Hello.

When I tried a few more times it doesn't even asks for PIN or password. Only displaying the error message.

After a restart the login screen continously shows the same "Couldn't recognise that fingerprint..." message. Not even try to read fingerprint. In Windows Hello I couldn't add fingerprint as when the adding process starts the reader stays unresponsive.

Uninstall and reinstall driver didn't help.

Any idea? It is in warranty.

Thanks.

Re: Lenovo ThinkPad E480 fingerprint reader stopped scanning

After using Lenovo Vantage driver updates and a repeated driver process (Uninstall device but leave driver -> scan for hardware changes) and a nice reboot helped.

I do not know what caused the problem.

This helped me too
