Validity Fingerprint Reader Linux

Hi,

I was wondering, whether there are actually some Lenovo guys around, or at least people who can get in touch with them.

Many people have been trying to get the new fingerprint reader (by Validity / Synaptic) to run under Linux. However it seems, that there simply is no driver around.

I'm talking about the fancy new fingerprint reader found in the current Thinkpad generation (Yoga X1, X1 Carbon, X260, X460, T460s, T460p).

The linux community already tried to develop some driver, however it seems, that the traffic is encrypted. The only, however very tiresome possibility would probably be to port the Windows driver... See https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94536 for infos.

However in the recent years Lenovo did quite some good work for Linux support, thus I was wondering, whether it would be possible for this to continue.

Greetings,
