802.1x Network Issues

2020-10-16, 15:11 PM

Hello,

I am unable to connect to my institutions 802.1x network on my razr (2020). Every other Wi-Fi network I have tried is fine, but I simply cannot connect to these kinds of networks (eduroam) using this device. I have seen other forums and questions regarding this posted around the web, and from what I have seen it appears to be a Motorola specific issue, possibly involving Android 10. I am happy to help troubleshoot and provide whatever details you may need, and I really would like to get this fixed. Thank you.

I managed to get a Motorola representative on the phone today. They will be working directly with me to gather more information about the problem and escalating the issue. I'd like this post to remain open so that I can post updates and inform others of the resolution when it is found. Thank you.

If it helps, I'm using this at my work on 802.1x. use clearpass with a radius auth if that helps. All works besides the crappy wireless range on this thing.

Hi.

Sorry you're experiencing this problem. We have some experience with this type of report, generally with educational organization systems. We've been able to resolve them if we can get some pieces of information.

Can you provide these items?

  • Please update your profile with current phone, carrier and serial number -- this will help me investigate. (Need help updating your profile? See here. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Forum-Feedback/Complete-your-forums-profile/td-p/3339943)
  • What is the campus and location of where this is taking place?
  • What is the SSID of your WiFi?

If you can provide these items, we can investigate, and try to resolve this.

Thanks.

Hello Matt,

I have updated my profile with the requested information. This is regarding the eduroam deployment we have here at the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, FL. The network SSID is simply "eduroam" without the quotes.

Thank you

Hello,

So far I haven't heard anything from anyone, just want to make sure this case doesn't fall off to the side. With Black Friday and Cyber Monday a month away I can only imagine cases will rise as new devices are purchased.

Thank you.

This could very well be tied to the poor wifi reception. My network engineer at the college I work for purposefully puts a minimum connection db on the client-ap connection. If you fall below this, it disconnects you. Or in your case, may never be connecting you at all. The design is so that you'll fall off a bad connection AP and connect to a closer one.

Have been using WPA-2 Enterprise as well as captive portal and MAC auth, and there haven't been issues for me, though my office is right next to an AP.

The other thing could be if you were not using randomized MAC auth before, that's been a new(ish) thing on Android. Although I believe it keeps the randomly assigned MAC as long as the network is remembered. Just some possibilities?
