Re:Big Issue: RAZR 5G Not compatible with Android Auto over USB! Are any plans to address this?

2020-10-14, 17:30 PM

Well, in my case, I can use six (6) different USB C cables: 2", 2x4", 6", 22" and 36".

My other Android 10 phones at any time work with AA perfectly with each of them.

Moto Razr 5G currently  does not work AA with any of them.

I'm still not giving up on Razr. independently of this, I've been backing AAWireless project on Indiegogo for a while; this project is trying to make a box that will connect to Car Unit by USB, but use WIFI to connect to the phone, making it unnecessary to connect the phone by cable. In the long run (they plan to ship in Feb next year), this potentially may suddenly completely bypass the USB issue with Moto Razr 5G for me.

I just hope that Moto may also solve USB problem by OTA much faster.

Oh, one more thing: although I could not in any way make AA work with my car system, I can connect USB to PC without problems (USB set to File Transfer). I can easily browse through Razr andriod file structure and exchange files between PC and Razr. So, USB connection works for Razr 5G - just not connection needed for AA (or Weblink apps). BTW, USB to PC connection does not seem to be affected by the length of USB cable (4' micro UB cable with USB-C adapter still works...

Hi.

Thanks for all this detail. Can I ask you for a bug report? It's not all that complicated despite appearances.

Here are the instructions. First, connect to AA, make sure it won't connect, and then take the bug report.

1. Go to Settings > About phone > scroll to the bottom > Tap on Build number 7 times to enable Developer mode.

2. Go to Settings > System > Advanced > Developer options.

3. In Developer options, enable USB debugging

4. In Developer options > enable Bug Report shortcut.

5. Once the issue is reproduced, go to Developer options > Click on take bug report or Press Power button and then choose Bug Report from the Power down menu.

6. Wait for some time until the bug report is collected. It takes around 3 to 4 minutes to collect the Bug Report.

7. When it's ready, upload the BugReport to your personal Google Drive and share the link to the Bug Report via an email to supportforums@motorola.com, and include a note referring to this post so we know what it refers to.

8. Provide observations of what you saw happen right before the bug report was taken. Please indicate the time that you observed the behavior in local time.

Thanks if you can do this.

Hello Matt,

I just submitted a bug report.

I ordered a standard USB-A to USB-C 6" cable and a USB 3.2 Gen 2 10Gbps 3' C to A cable and will test both and report back.

When will you get back to us after reviewing our bug reports?

When will the update be released?

Thanks...

So according to Alex D, it looks like even a 6” cable doesn’t work?

Had the same issue and can confirm using a 6" cable with a 2019 RAV4 fixed the issue

I'm glad that shorter cable worked for someone. This may mean that the issue might be just in the strength of the USB signal at Razr side.

In my case, excited that the issue might be in USB cable, I ran out and bought yet another, best 6" super-duper USB cable I could find; even found Android Auto prominently displayed on it's packaging.

No dice. And to add insult to injury - connected Samsung S10E and found it working just fine.
