Sound not working without earphones

All of a sudden, I have no sound without earphones. Only discovered when calls not answered and no sound on messenger call.

Hi.

 

Is this no sound, period? Like, music and notifications and video, etc.? Or is it limited to Messenger? 

 

One quick thing to check, if it's all sounds: Go to Device Help (in your app drawer) > Device diagnosis > Hardware test > click Speaker to test the hardware.

No sounds. Speaker not working. Callers can hear me but I can't hear them without earphones. No ringtone or notifications. Vibration very weak.

I'm so sorry. I don't know why this didn't show up when I check the community yesterday. Weird.

 

If you ran the hardware test, as suggested, and the speaker test failed, then we will have to have this fixed. As long as the phone has not suffered any physical damage, it is fully covered under warranty. I will ask an agent to contact you here via PM to arrange this. So sorry for the hassle. 

 

Though you did write "Speaker not working," it's not clear to me if it failed the hardware test. If the phone did not fail the hardware test, there are a few more things we should try.

  • Can you test in Safe Mode to see if this is an app issue? To go into Safe Mode, press the physical power key, then press and hold the pop-up "Power off" key until the Safe Mode instructions pop up. Once in safe mode, test the phone's audio using the non-third party functions, such as voice calls.
  • If it works in Safe Mode, then we should try resetting your app preferences. Go to Settings > Apps & Notifications > See all XXX apps > three-dot menu > Reset app preferences.
