Hi
The fact that elan drivers work clearly shows that your machine has the touchpad device manufactured by elan and not synaptic and it is only possible to install a device driver of 1 manufacturer only.

Hi
It's not necessary that two machines have identical touchpads. They can vary, even in machines brought together.
For the two finger tap, either it is disabled or your hardware does not support it. Though I don't think it is the latter. You can check the device setting in control panel(mouse)

Hi
In your screenshot, when synaptics driver is installed, the device name is not synaptic but only standard pointing device is shown which tells that you cannot install the synaptic driver on an elantech touchpad.

Hi again
There is no problem with your elan touchpad device. You have a well functioning laptop.
Please post if you need further assistance.

Hi
I searched a bit about this, i found this thread which is similar to yours problem
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-Z-and-P-series/Z500-touchpad-two-finger-tap-does-not-work/td-p/1026921
The op here also has the same problem.
Can you try a different driver, like from the elantech site?

Hi Shik!

I'm just curiuos to know why you want to install the synaptic touchpad driver when what you have is the elan touchpad. Do you want some gestures from synaptic which you cannot have in elan? If yes, I have some info which might help. Although, I can't assure you that it will work since I haven't tried it myself.

Here is the link that I found. It talks about having the gestures from synaptics even though you have elan touchpad. Please pay special attention on how to go about it by reading Alicia's comment.

I Hope this helps.
