Lost sales receipt - is warranty still valid?

2009-09-23, 17:41 PM

I've just discovered that I've lost the sales receipt for my 3 month old Lenovo Thinkpad X200, bought in May 2009 in Singapore. However, the laptop is covered under a 3 year on-site warranty and this warranty status is reflected on the Lenovo warranty lookup site.

Does Lenovo require me to provide the receipt in a situation whereby I need to send my laptop in for servicing? Or would the serial number on the bottom of the laptop suffice?

Thanks.

bkchng,

Welcome to the forum.   The warranty is based on the MT and Serial number of the system, so the receipt is generally not needed.  The only case where the receipt is needed is if the warranty start date needs to be reset because the machine sat in inventory somewhere (shelf life) before it was finally sold.  In these instances, the warranty started at the factory and the customer might have purchased a month or two later.

If you look up your warranty by your MT and Serial number on the support site www.lenovo.com/support

and find that the dates look right, then no worry about the receipt.

Best regards,

Mark

As Mark have said, the warranty follows the laptop and not the original purchaser of the laptop like some other lesser laptops company tend to do. And as long as you obtain warranty in the country of original you would not need to show the purchase documents (in fact i have never received any of purchase documents in the last 5 transactions).

Also, Lenovo don't touch your software nor do they support them, the only time they deal with Software on the hdd, is when they are reformatting them due to some corruption, so what you install is not their problem nor do it affect the warranty.

The warranty can be checked here.

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=LOOK-WARNTY#sw

you can check your warranty in the above link.

Re: Lost sales receipt - is warranty still valid?

Hi Mark,

I have a problem regarding the warranty of my w500, I don't have the receipt anymore. I went to lenovo service center manila, Philippines, they require the sales receipt of the unit, they told me that the machine is bought in the united states and they need the sales receipt. I check IWS, w500 can be service here in manila. do i need to bring my w500 to the US?

Thanks

jandrada,

The system model type and serial number on the bottom should be sufficient to entitle the warranty if the system shows in warranty on our support site warranty look up.

The only time the purchase receipt should be needed is to change the warranty end date based on when you bought the system, and that doesn't sound like that is the case.

Coverage should be provided in any of the countries that are listed for your model in IWS.

Please see my PM (little envelope at top of forum).

Mark

Hi Mark,

I've also lost my receipt of Lenovo a390. Is it not really need the receipt for the warranty?

My phone can't reboot and go in recovery mode

Thanks
