new M93Z, Windows 8 won't activate, says product key is duplicate

this M93Z system shipped with windows 8 pre-installed but it appears to be missing a license key.  most of the online resources i've found suggest that all lenovo PCs have a label with the product key printed on it, but mine (and others) have no windows label anywhere on the PC or accompanying documentation.

 

here is the exact message from Windows:

"This product key is already being used on another PC.  Try a different key or buy a new one."

 

can anyone suggest how to resolve?  i followed up with the supplier, lenovo.ie / Digital River who referred me to the global lenovo support site.  i signed up there for a new technical support ticket, who referred me on to some IBM portal and i set up an IBM profile, and was then kindly told that they only provide technical support for hardware problems...  

 

Any computer science student looking to understand recursion could simply try and complete a technical support loop with a large multinational :smileyfrustrated:

Hello.

 

Windows 8 product keys are never printed on OEM stickers, they are embedded in your BIOS. If you want to find your product key, you can use this program here: ProduKey v1.67

 

I have seen this problem on Windows 8 computers many times, and as annoying as it is, it is easily rectified by using the automated phone system to activate it if your key fails to activate through the internet. It's a simple automated process and shouldn't take you more than 10 minutes.
