ThinkpadYoga does not fully shut down or restart, only display off.

2015-01-16, 20:25 PM

hello lenovo helpers community :)

Everytime I want to shut down or restart my Thinkpad Yoga (11e, running on Win 8.1. Pro), it doesn't fully shut down. The display turns off, but the red LED light remains on and I can hear the vents running.

No matter how long I wait, it doesn't turn off. I always have to force the shut down with the power button on the side. This is really no solution.

I have tried a couple of things that are recommended online, but so far, nothing helped.

Examples of things I tried: power button options, energy options, registry, cmd shutdown -s -f -t 5, scanned virus etc., looked at the autorun list, registry scan (although I didn't really have high hopes on that one), updated all drivers and Win 8.1. Pro, ..

Please help me, thank you!

Best, Isa

Have you tried rebooting windows cleanly and see if it will go to sleep that way?

I have literally tried everything, that included. When I brought it to a Customer Service Station they told me, that they couldn't do anything new than what I have tried already.

However, a friend from IT found a way to enable error reports and there it finally told me what we assumed by now: parts of the SSD hard drive seems to be broken. Hence the inability to update, install or download documents sent via Email and all that jazz. Now i did send it in to a wonderful service (www.servion.de for all German folks here who seek reliable service that takes care of in-warranty and outof-warranty cases).

I have to say, however: Lenovo service was aweful and truly the worst I have experienced in my entire life. I am so dissapointed. When explaining the reboot trouble, something rather typical for the new win 8 updates, they messed around in BIOS via remote control, and after that I had far more problems than before.

Windows Service was nice, but couldn't help much either, also couldn't enable the error reports which I asked them for.

It has been a rollercoaster of emotions with my master thesis at stake with all the time being sucked up by incopetent customer services. I hope it's over now.

So, thanks for your quick reply, sorry for my late one. I'm very gratefull for all the support offered in the forums all over the web and touched by the help offered :)

Thanks again, have a good one :D

I am sorry that you had such a bad time, but to speak up for the customer service folk, not just the Lenovo but the Microsoft ones as well, a broke SSD would have been way down on the bottom of my list. There are no moving parts and I have a hard time understanding how parts of it could go bad without the system telling you that there was a problem. Not saying it can't happen, I just don't understand how it could.

I will have to keep that in mind though.

hello again :)

well, I don't mean to offend anyone, I'm really sorry if I did! The mere fact that you took the time to reply tells me that you care a lot about this. So I will take the time to set this straight, as well.

I did only have the experience with the German customer service hotline which, too, might be a factor. When living in the States for a couple of years I learned what service was truly all about, coming back here (to Germany) wasn't easy ;)

Either way, I base my feelings about the German Lenovo CS not on the fact whether or not they could help me, but on how easy it was to reach someone who would try to fix my laptop for more than just five minutes and how fast I was asked to send the laptop in, especially after I told them that that would be the last option (I live in the countryside and getting to the next post office or Lenovo service partner would require at least a 2 hour drive and I don't have a car).

The M.Windows CS was nice and actually took 2 hours (!!) to figure out what was wrong via remote control, and gave me a couple of numbers to call in the area, that might be able to send someone over. So, although he couldn't help me, I felt like he really tried and took my situation into account.

I agree, that the final issue was hard to guess and also that it is weird that error notices were disabled. No one really knows though. Maybe just one with a hickup ;)

I will not give up on lenovo though, promise ;)
