New S1Yoga Digitizer Woes

2015-01-17, 20:31 PM

Hello all,

I just received a refurbished ThinkPad S1 Yoga from the Lenovo outlet store, and have a problem with the digitizer.

When using the pen, there is a zone about 3/4 inch from the top edge of the screen (in laptop mode) where the cursor fails to track properly. When approaching this line from below, the cursor will hover just below the tip of the pen, and then as this line is passed the cursor rapidly accelerates 2-3 milllimeters upwards relative to the pen's tip.

I used a ruler to draw some straight lines in fresh paint, highlighting the resulting problem:

I've talked with tech support and updated all my drivers and firmware, tried every calibration trick I could find on the web (default, 25 point Wacom, as well as the 100+ point calibration trick), and also tried running the calibration in all orientations - the problem always shows up in the same edge of the screen.

At this point I assume that I have a bad digitizer and will need to send the unit in for repair, but figured I should check here before doing so.

EDIT: I am still using the included stylus. Is it worth trying to track down a replacement stylus to rule that out as the source of the problem? It would be easy enough, but I can't for the life of me figure out how a defective stylus would result in this behavior.

Thanks for any thoughts

This is fairly well documented behavior of Wacom tablets. The extra EM interference near the edges causes erratic behavior.

The 100+ point calibration trick helps, but you'll need to adjust the parameters on lincal to add much denser points near the problematic edge.
