X61 Tablet-LCD goes dim

2010-02-12, 1:50 AM

Hi-

I have been repairing IBM/Lenovo Notebooks for 12 years.  By far the X61 Tablet is the most troublesome and complicated.

I have a batch of X61 Tab systemboards in to test.  FRU# 42W7818/43Y9032 and lcds to match.  FRU on the lcds are 13N7233 and 13N7239.  (I knew those numbers off the top of head which is sad).  I have every convceivable part instock to test these.  But I am running dim lcds on the boards.  I swapped out everything.  Hard drive, video extender card, battery, lcd cable-and still dim. Flashed the BIOS  and external monitor boots right into Windows.

I don't know what else to do.  I took a known good 43Y9032 and known good 13N7224 and the lcd was dim again.  I dont' understand, I just did a flawless repair on an X61 Tab a month ago...

I strongly advise that if you are not an IBM/Lenovo professional, never take these apart.

Also, Lenovo's webite.  It used to be that you could type in an FRU in the search bar and the information you needed would appear via a link.  Now, type in an FRU "not found".  However, go to the parts breakdown list...and there it is.  Who can answer that?

Thanks

Tpadtech

The way I understand this, you can go into Windows and set the "brightness" to the max. and it will still be dim?

Or is it on boot only?..

Did you check the PM options in the bios? In particular the "plugged in options"

Currently own: X220T, X220, X230, X250, T430, T450, W550s 3K,

It's a bit quirky, but if you click on the "Search PC support" link on the left of a Suport & downloads page, it takes you to a search with a different scope which WILL find FRU's.

I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!
