Can I use a beefier disk ?

2015-03-17, 20:32 PM

Hello !

I own a E540 Thinkpad (20C600JHFR) which came with a very thin 7200 RPM 500 GB disk.

As I use Windows 7 and Ubuntu, I'm short of disk space.

Alas, I can't find 1TB disks in 7 mm thick but they are quite common on 9.5 thickness. So I was wondering if it is possible to remove the blue foam pads to gain the extra space to mount the drive. Is this foam part of the shock detection device ?

And if yes, will it void the warranty ?

Many thanks in advance for your help.
