which windows 7 version to buy

2015-03-18, 17:19 PM

I have made other posts here about problems with my t400 and it's obvious I need to remove windows vista and do a clean install of windows 7. Howeve I am nsure as to what version I should purchase. The windows 7 upgrade advisor doesn't work on my laptop;it just runs without any results. I have 2GB ram.

Thanks for any advice

First and foremost, you need to have at least 4 GB of RAM. I would look at upgrading Vista to Windows ( The upgrade is less expensive) and during the upgrade process, do a clean install giving you a dual boot system. This approach would depend on how big your HDD is.

Sure is, and if you decide to upgrade to more you are all set. I would suggest at least 4 with any version. Makes things so much better IMO, and it's cheap now a days.

Does the upgrade require me to have the number for the Vista I'm running? This is a laptop my son got in college and was maintained by the college. I have no OS disc

No, you will need to purchase the Windows 7 disc and activation code. I would suggest doing a full install, not upgrade. It's less buggy and more stable in my experience.
