Intermittent HDMI output (sound and vision) Z70-80

2015-03-25, 9:24 AM
Hey everyone,

Hope someone has a helpful advice. Got my lenovo a week ago. Trying to connect it to my smart tv via HDMI and have following issues:

1. Connection is not immediate, i.e. I need to plug and unplug the hdmi cable several times until i get audio and visual signal.

2. When it happens the connection is intermittent and i need to do the sam procedure again but still the connection doesn't remain constant.

I never faced this with my very very very old laptop from toshiba. Once i connected the Toshiba to the smart tv connection was there immediately with no effort.

Is there something i am overlooking?

I would be very thankful for any help

Thanks in advance

If you have resources -

1) Could you try using a different HDMI cable?

2) Could you try connecting to a different TV?

3) Your toshiba works fine with the same HDMI and same TV?

Tried the new cable issue remains.

I get for some  minutes normal transmission and then the connection dies.

I also tried different modi, i.e. Duplicate, Extent, Second Screen but to no avail.

Any ideas how to resolve the issue?

Thanks again

If it works sometimes and other times not, seems like a hardware problem.

If your laptop has a removable battery, disconnect power supply, remove battery and hold power button for 40 seconds.

Connect everything and restart. See if that helps.

If you dont have removable battery, then you should contact lenovo and tell them that you received a faulty HDMI port and the connection is intermittent.

These were my next steps:

Went to COntrol Panel --> Power Options

My power scheme was balanced. I don t have a battery connected.

On the pluggged in options I set both values to Never

Then clicked Advanced Settings:

Intel Graphics Power Plan when plugged in set to maximum perfomance

Display: Turn off after:  when pluggged in: Never

After that I sat and watched. I m still watching streaming after 39min and 20s without interruprion.

I don't really know if what I did makes sense but I will oberve further if there will be any more interruptions.

May I have your opinion to the above please?

Thanks again fpr your prompt support!

Power options could fix such problems, I agree. Intel Graphics power options are IMO crap, they never help.

When you are using HDMI, do you close the lid of your laptop?

Thanks for the reply.

I never close the lid of the notebook when using it. Just a matter of habbit. the other day when I posted the steps undertaken I also tried various combinations of screen projection, i.e. duplicate, extend, second screen only. That day after the modifications I stated above I was able t watch couple of hours uninterrupted. Yesterday I didn't try it at all. I'll give it today another go t see how it goes. If it s still successful that would be mean it was most probably a settings matter although if it really is, I would have expected something more simple from Lenovo than having to fuss around hours and hours to make something siimpe just work as it was supposed to do.

What's the point of plug and play if I have to go through surgery?

Final Posting:

After two HDMI cables I solved the problem. It was due to two faulty cables.

Thanks for the support here. It's great!!!!

Thats good that in the end it was a faulty cable.

However, its still bewildering that those cables worked perfectly with your other laptop.

Anyways, let us know if you face problems again.
