ThinkPad W550s Problems

2015-03-29, 16:40 PM

Hi,

I got my new Lenovo Thinkpad W550s yesterday and I'm having some troubles with it.

When I try to watch Videos on YouTube in higher Resolutions (720p up to 4k) my CPU Usage Jumps to 100%

It doesn't matter which Browser (ie, Firefox, or Chrome) or which Plugin (HTML 5 or Flash), It will react the same way.

I even deinstalled and then reinstalled the Video Card Drivers several times. It doesn't do the trick for me.

I can asure I have installed the newest Flash and Browsers and because it's a new System there aren't any Maleware or something like that (Checked that too)

My System Specs are:

15.5" 3K IPS (2880 x 1620)
Intel® Core™ i7-5500U Dual-Core Prozessor (2.4 – 3.0 GHz)
NVIDIA Quadro K620M (2 GB)
16 GB RAM
512 GB SSD
Windows 7 Pro

Does somebody know, how to fix this? I'm really frustrated. Trying to fix this Problem the hole day..

Hi Irgendbas,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I think this issue can be caused by confliction from one of the background programs. You may troubleshoot in Clean Boot Mode.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows 7 - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Also try disabling all the browser add-ons except adobe flash player.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Hemanth Kumar

hey hemanth_lenovo,

thanks for the quick answer.

My Laptop just came back from the official repair service by lenovo. And my Problem still isn't fixed!

Whenever I watch some videos or even just try to go on netflix.com (without watching a movie, just loading up netflix.com) the processor jumps to 100%.

Your Idea to clean boot the system, doesn't affact anything.. Remember, its a clean installation by your repair service..

And on top of that my Laptop now makes a weird hzzzing sound, I can't even explain where this comes from.

Pls Help, I'm very frustrated. I'm even thinking about giving it back and to buy another Product..

One thing you can try is requiring your browser to use the NVIDIA GPU instead of the on-board video. To do so, right-click on your desktop, go to NVIDIA control panel and select, "Manage 3D settings." Under the Program Settings tab you can force the application to default to the K620M instead of the Intel processor. Restart your browser and see if that makes a difference. I find that I get about a 20% CPU utilization running a 4k video on YouTube with this setup.

sadly i tried this before and it didn't work..

But I installed Windows 8.1 last night and it looks like this did the trick for me. Now I have a clean OS without any Lenovo Software and a Laptop that works.

I only have to change the speakers now, looks like they are broken too..:smileysad:
