T530 Sandisk SSD U100 Problem

2015-04-06, 4:53 AM

I am having problems with a T530 that has shown up lately (it was upgraded to Windows 8 and has a Samsung SSD):

(X) Windows detected a hard disk problem

...

Which disk is failing?

The folling hard disks are reporting failure:

Disk Name:  SanDisk SSD U100 16GB

Volume:  Unknown

__________

I assume from the size that it is the mSATA.

Anyone know either:

  1. Is the error real, or something due to the upgrade, or ? (any way to get more details?)
  2. How to turn the disk off (can I use for example disk managemet or device management?)

I was thinking if I could just turn off the Sandisk drive, the system should be fine, in that it has a Samsung SSD main drive anyway.

(I am shooting this remote, so a Windows 8 type disable would be the best.  I noticed that there is some firmware that might be applicable:

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds013805

But since I am not there, at this is a bit beyond the people that are, I was hoping that was not it, though I suppose I could cut the CD ana mail it back.  But something that just disables the drive would be the best, I don't think the system really needs it, and it could be actually failing, I suppose)

Re: T530 Sandisk SSD U100 Problem

I ran from an Admin terminal:

eccmd -info

But it seemed to hang, which I suppose could be bad drive, or software problem.  The level of Expresscach showing under Programs and features is:

ExpressCache    Diskeeper Corporation 8/16/2012   5.14 MB Version 1.0.86

So it does look out of date some, at least juding from:

http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/expresscache_x64_110.txt

Odd that Lenovo System Update did not find/update it.

I upleveled the ExpressCache feature, now when I type:

eccmd -info

It comes back:

ExpressCached Command Version 1.3.110.0

Copyrithtr  2010-2013 Condusiv Technologies.

Date Time:  4/6/2015 6:35:5:990 (.... -T530 #0)

Failed to retrieve product license information.

...

So I thought it may not be running at all, which may or may not be the case, but I am still seeing the disk errors on the Sandisk U100, unfortunately, so something is still using it.

I uninstalled ExpressCache, and I still get the WIndows detected bad disk on the Sandisk U100.  So that was not it, apparently.
