T420 Max Capacity Drive Supported (SSD/HDD) ?

2015-04-29, 16:14 PM

Dears,

I own a Lenovo ThinkPad T420 type 4236 R09,

I already tried to fit an SSD Samsung 850 Evo of 500GB.

Phisically, it stands right.

Problem is that it does not work. Even if I read around this machine could support also 1TB, it seems that is not true.

According to the Lenovo official product description, it could fit with "standards 64, 120, 128, 160 GB.

Some one could ascertain please, what is the real SSD maximum size in GB this NoteBook is able to support?

I greatly appreciate. Thanks. Kind Regards,

Hi McDick,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per my knowledge ThinkPad T420 supports 500 GB of SATA and max 160 GB of SSD this works fine for me. I have not checked on 1Tb SATA or 500 GB SSD.

Just a wild guess, did you check updating the BIOS for you T420?

Hope this helps!!!

Best regards,

Hemanth Kumar

Hello, good day ... I had the same problem, or perhaps a similar problem. I wonder if you could solve the problem.
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T420 and buy a Samsung SSD 850 120GB Evo. When installing I recognized perfectamante me, I could install the operating system and in a moment !!!! blue screen and error "2100 detection error on hdd0".
The drive no longer recognizes me or the BIOS.

Some help ?, thank you !.

Hi dears, justo to update my issue, it was solved ..

In same slot where placed its original HDD of 250GB @ 7200rpm,
achieved to set a SSD Samsung Evo 850 of 500GB, it was used some SW from Acronis, I can not tell more since it was done in a shop. What I got aware is that was not necessary to perform any upgrade on the Bios or SSD firmware, nothing. The Acronis SW by itself partitioned the SSD in #2 partitions of 250GB each, but it works good ..
So, at least this upgrade, is feasible to realize ..
Thaks anyway for your support ..

This helped me too
