KVM Switches

2008-01-06, 8:26 AM
Lets see now does any one have experience on the different KVM switches out there? I have the Belkin soho 4 port ps/2 USB model for both the old Desktop (a mutt) and the new K100. The Belkin has a problem with the Logitech Elite keyboard on both machines and the Logitech g15 gamming mouse so I keep the keyboards and mouse seperate. BTW the Lenovo mouse even with the PS/2 adaptor and Mouse Suite just won't work so I got a cheap Logitech ps/2 mouse and it works great. I now want to add the Toshiba Labtop to the switch and an old Sony Labtop but both do not have ps/2 ports.

Any thought to which KVM is better? the Belkin has a dumb noise switch as I go between computers but I was looking at the new IO Gear Miniview Symphony Multi-function 4-Port KVM Switch because I could then use the 2 external hardrives that I have and printer.

I do have one of the USB transfer devices that I might try to connect the computers as a cheaper alternative but I thought I would check with everyone for thoughts. Thanks in advance and again thanks to Lenovo for sending me the 2 removable drive kits so quickly.

Also does anyone know of a good computer desk that will handle 2-4 computers that is affordable or should I just do a Costco plastic special for $50 and let the wires hang as they like.  = ) Thanks.

Last CompUSA going out of Business so things are 20% or more off right now ! Get the goods while they last.

You can get USB cables with a Y-splitter with 2 PS/2 ports for mouse and keyboard as shown here
They make a USB-only PC/laptop compatible with a KVM.

If you Google with "belkin kvm soho no beep" there is a firmware that will stop it from beeping. (I have the F1DS104P unit and it worked).

Ok so just an update, the Belkin SoHo 4port ps/2 USB  kept giving me problems with the both computers and also double typing all letters so I gave it the bullet.  I got the Belkin Flip PS/2 with audio and Quite the difference !  eng223 recomends  the Flip !

The Zonet KVM switch works fine, although with cables entering it from 4 directions it is best left well hidden.
