How Many Channels do Y510 audio output?

2008-07-26, 20:49 PM

I noticed that the Y510 come with the wonderful Dolby Home Theater System, that's a 4.1 system i understand.

But my concern is the audio output jack for connecting the external speakers... will it work normally while connecting to 5.1 speaker system?

Thanks

ALC882 seems to be inside.

How do you suggest to connect 5.1 system by a stereo-jack? I suggest that's impossible...

Sorry, as i am a newbie, i can't understand work it works ....

As i found on the web, ALC882 is a 7.1+2 Channel High Definition Audio codec. So does that mean that the notebook could give a 7.1 channels output?? if so, how could I benefit from this features, instead of jz a 2-channel stereo output?

Well, I found something pretty odd the other day. I have a Y710 and, even though it's not shown on the spec list, I have optical audio output. It uses a mini-toslink adapter which coincadentally came with an optical audio cord I bought a while ago (shouldn't be too hard to find). Just open your Realtek HD Audio Manager, go to the Digital Output tab and click 'Set Default Device'. Plug in your mini-toslink adapter (if it'll fit) and if there's a red light coming from the jack, then you have optical audio! If you have it, enjoy. If not, I think there's a way to have 5.1 audio pass through a 2 channel audio cable as long as you have a compatible receiver. I'm not too sure on the specifics though. Anyway, good luck!
