A51-8124 Video Card Issue.

2012-10-16, 15:50 PM

I have an A51 8124-3BU mainboard, and I'm having an issue with a video card I'm trying to install. I recently got an Asus HD 5450 512MB DDR2 PCI-E 2.1 card, and I can't seem to get any video output from it.

I've updated the bios to what seems to be the latest version (according to the Lenovo support page for my system), but when I install the card and turn on the computer, there is no output. When I switch back to integrated, it's the same thing. I've selected PCI from the BIOS too (when the HD5450 is removed), and still nothing. Reset the CMOS....still nothing. Though, I haven't removed the battery - I simply changed the jumper.

Is it a power supply issue? I have a 310V power supply. I did disconnect the Floppy drive, and the DVD-RW drive, and removed the USB devices I didn't need...and it still does the same thing. It sort of boots, and the fans spin, but the hard drive isn't initiated into it's Windows boot sequence. Seems to be hung up in the BIOS interaction. Switching the VGA cable to intergrated doesn't work either, regardless of what active video option I have selected.

Any ideas on what could be causing this? Is the video card too advanced for the board? Am I missing a BIOS update somewhere? The latest version I have is from 09/06/2006.
