Did I get the wrong mSATA SSD for my T520 4239-CTO?

2013-01-12, 8:19 AM

I would love a full set of specs for my machine and it's capability.  Very hard to find.

I purchased this card tonight

MyDigitalSSD 128GB BP3 Bullet Proof 3 mSATA III (6G) SSD Solid State Drive - MDMS-BP3-128

<Linkt to product>

It seems my machine will only support mSATA II (3G)

So will the card I purchased work in this machine (same connectors) but at a mSATA II speed?  Or is it completely incompatable?

SATA III is backward compatible so although the SSD is SATA III (6GB) it will run at SATA II speeds in a machine that will is only SATA II (3GB).

Per a quick search on the web at:  http://www.storagereview.com/lenovo_thinkpad_t520_review the Sandy Bridge platform is SATA III even though Lenovo probably provided a SATA II drive with the machince.  In fact, I believe the stock HDD that came with my T530 was SATA II even thought the processor will support SATA III.  Shortly after purchase I installed a SATA III SSD.
