T420 Graphics Resolution

2013-01-17, 20:02 PM

Hello, just got issued a T420 laptop. I notice that the graphics card resolution max's out at 1366 x768 in Control Panel. The internal card specs are rated much higher and my monitor supporst 1920 x 1080. I am currently running WinXP and I am using a VGA monitor cable. Any ideas of how to get the resolution up to 1920 x 1080? Thanks for the help!

Hi, guydurrett

I would first recommend making sure the driver for the display is up to date. You can find that driver here, but be sure to download the driver for the graphics card you are currently using if you have more than one.

Best,

Adam

Hi again,

To get more detailed information about your system, can you post your exact model of your computer?  If you look on the underside of your machine, you should see the word Type followed by seven characters.

Thanks in advance,

Adam

Hi again, guydurrett

I looked up the Personal Systems Reference for your machine type and found that your machine may only support the resolution at which it is currently set. Your graphics card supports 1920x1200 resolution, but only on external monitors. Some T420s support a 1600x900 resolution internally, but some only support 1366x768, and yours may be one of those. You can read the specs here if you'd like. It's advised to use Ctrl + F and search for 4177 to find your machine faster.

Hope it helps,

Adam
