Failed "Intel Wireless Display Driver" installation

2013-01-18, 23:30 PM

I am trying to update my Lenovo Ideapad U410's Wireless Display software mainly because of an error with the USB-IF xHCI USB Host Controller that started occuring on January 1, 2013.  I have read in many different forums online that this WiDi upgrade will fix this specific error.

However, after downloading the Intel Wireless Display Driver for Microsoft Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit) (V3.5.41.0) for my Lenovo Ideapad U410, an error occurs during the installtion every time.

This error reads: InstallShield Wizard Aborted.  This platform is not compatible with Intel(R) WiDI or the application is in use.  Please see the log for more details.  Your system has not been modified.  To complete installation at another time, please close the Intel(R) WiDi application if it is running and run setup again with the compatible platform.

Does anyone know how I can successfully upgrade the WiDi driver on my computer and avoid this error message?

I am running Windows 8 64-bit.

Yigit,

I have an Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2230 v15.5.6.48 wireless adapter and the Intel Driver Update Utility states this driver is the most current.

I've tried both downloading the Wireless Display Driver from Intel and from Lenovo. Same error message for both drivers even though they are slightly different versions.  The driver from Intel is version 3.5.40.0 and the driver from Lenovo is 3.5.41.0.

I have the same problem with my new Y580 after doing a clean reinstall of windows 8.  The factory image had the WiDi drivers installed, and I've tried both the drivers available from Lenovo for download AND the drivers that came on the D: of the laptop.  Neitheworlds.

if you have switchable graphic cards, please, set the intel graphic card as default and try again.

Setting the Intel graphics to the global default did not make a difference, nor did using the Run with graphics processor | Integrated graphics (default) option when running the installer.

How do I change the default graphics card? And should I try this if it didn't work for CoolModine?

I've solved the problem! After updatig my WiFi Driver through the Lenovo services website, I was then able to update the Wireless Display driver successfully.  Finally! Thanks for all your help.

Re: Failed "Intel Wireless Display Driver" installation

I installed the newest drivers for the WIFI Adapter but I still cannot install the WIDI Adapter driver update.

It gives me an error message that my system is not compatible. I'm running:

ThinkPad W530 (2436-CTO)

Windows 8 64-bit

Intel Wireless LAN:

Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6205

Version: 15.5.6000.1657/15.5.6.48

Intel Wireless Display (WiDi):

Version: 3.5.34.0

Attempted to install via the Lenovo Update Center as well as manually the following file:

http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/g1w613ww.exe

No luck with either. Same message about system incompatibility. I have not tried to uninstall the current drivers as I'm afraid I'll be unable to install the new ones.
