L340 151 WL - can I use a SATA HDD and PCIe SSD

2021-07-02, 19:00 PM

My IdeaPad takes frequently is slowed down due to the installed SATA HDD (I think: task manager shows the HDD at 100% for about 10 minutes when I start the computer).  There is a slot for a SSD, and I'm wondering if I can order one and use both drives at the same time?

Hi @Ted1066

Thanks for getting back in the thread. Checking on the product specification sheet shows the following information:

Up to 2 drives (one HDD, one M.2 SSD):
● HDD / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 7mm high, 5400rpm
● SSD / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide (e.g. xxxGB SSD)
● M.2 2242 SSD / PCIe NVMe, PCIe 3.0 x 2, 16Gb/s
● M.2 2280 SSD / PCIe NVMe, PCIe 3.0 x 4, 32Gb/s
● M.2 2280 SSD / SATA 6.0Gb/s (e.g. xxxGB SSD M.2)

The hardware manual here (page 44) also shows the steps how and where so you can match it from your board.

OEM recommended parts are listed under the parts look up site, head to Compatible tab > Solid State Drive.

This article would help you how to get orders for parts.

I hope this helps.

Regards.
Dex

Welcome to the Community Forums @Ted1066

Thanks for starting a query in this board.

There is a need to check your model first before the rest, hence, share your machine type model / MTM (ex. 81C70000RK) indicated on the sticker underneath the device, this will help identifying your machine variant. A machine type model / MTM consists of more than four characters.

Update us when convenient.

Regards.
Dex

Thanks!  I knew there were places for two drives, but I wasn't sure if I could really use them simultaneously.  You've been a great help
