High CPU Usage After Waking From Sleep - System.exe using 30%+ CPU (SeAccessCheckWithHint+0x1c620)

Hi Everyone - I've done a bunch of searching for a solution to this but unfortunately no luck yet... Hoping folks here may be able to help!

I recently did some routine updates on my ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 7 (second screenshot below shows recent updates) and now my machine keeps getting hung up on something after waking up from sleep causing 30%+ of CPU usage to go to System.exe (specifically the SeAccessCheckWithHint+0x1c620 thread).

The first screenshot below shows the Process Explorer details for the threads under System.exe. I can't for the life of me figure out what SeAccessCheckWithHint+0x1c620 is, but it looks like this is what is driving the issue.

I've tried doing a fresh install of Windows 10, but the same issue occurs once the handful of updates below are run through.

I'd note that this issue is only after waking from sleep. Everything works fine after restarting... until the machine goes to sleep again.

Any ideas on what may be going on here?

Thanks!

Hi,

i am sorry that i can not provide a solution but i just want to confirm your issue.
I have exactly the same problem as you have with the same ThinkPad X1 (except, mine is X1 Yoga), did exactly the same research, found exactly the same hints, tried everything i could but nothing helped.

Just as you do, i will continue looking for a solution. I will write it here if i can find one. If you are successfull, please do so, too.

The strange thing about it: I have collegues in my company with exactly the same laptop, nearly the same set of software, the same Windows Version but without a Problem.

Greetings,

Stefan

I'm having the exact issue on a Microsoft Surface, so it's not likely Lenovo specific. It just started happening recently when waking from sleep.  Process Explorer always shows the same ntoskrnl.exe SeAccessCheckWithHint+0x1c620 threads killing my CPU, and making the PC unusable.  Following along in case anyone fixes.  I'll post back if I find a fix.

I'll need to look further up the stack trace: https://thenewjamesbaker.blogspot.com/2009/11/seaccesscheckwithhint.html

Wanted to follow up here - the problem seems to have gone away on its own for me. I did a fresh install of Windows 10 and then updated all the drivers, updated the BIOS, and did an install of all the "optional" updates the System Update / Lenovo Vantage could find.

I'm about 3 days in and all seems to be well for now - I'll keep folks updated if that changes.

I'm hoping to avoid a full reinstall.  :-/

Maybe just start with the drivers / BIOS update - I just did a full reinstall to be safe given the machine is relatively new and I don't have a ton of software or customizations on there yet. Good luck!

Same issue here, on a Yoga X1 Carbon 5th generation that is barely 1 month old.

All drivers are up to date, including newest BIOS.

Will monitor this thread for any future solutions.

For my Surface I managed to use some of the deeper Microsoft diagnostic trace tools and got far enough that the video driver was my primary suspect. I rolled that back to a prior known good version, and the issue seems to be resolved.

I'm having the same problem on a Dell XPS 17 2020 model. And I just reinstalled the OS a week ago. I'm on Windows 10 Pro 20H2, OS build 19042.685.

Hi all - unfortunately this issue has come back... trying to figure out what my computer auto-installed to cause it.

Please let us know if anyone has found a good solution / workaround!
