ECC VS Non- ECC •|• 64GB Kit 2x32GB DDR4-2933 PC4-23400 ECC SODIMM Laptop Memory

2020-12-10, 8:22 AM

How much of a difference is ECC vs Non ECC in laptop performance. I am a photographer who uses Adobe Photoshop and Camera RAW software for Photo Editing.

I bought a P1 Gen 3 with 32GB ECC but would like to upgrade. I have yet only found one reputable company that does ECC other than Lenovo $379 for 1 DIMM

I found a brand named Nemix that does a 64GB kit for $410.00 that is ECC.

The other brands such as Cosair and Kingston HyperX

Will cost between 200-250 when Non ECC 64GB kits.

So what do you prefer or advise?

I'm running a Xenon chip, my laptop was $2500 I thought the RAM upgrade would be simple just plug and play. I guess I  forgot about the price and is the best efficiency for my product.

My understanding is that laptop ECC memory is unbuffered so the performance of ECC and non-ECC is, for all practical purposes the same.  ECC can repair single-bit errors, but they have chips in groups of 9, rather than 8 so they are slightly more likely to fail due to chip failure.
