How to disable update notifications for Moto g6

2019-06-26, 18:31 PM

Hi there.

How to disable or cancel the pie notification?

I don't want Android pie bc the audio issues.

And I do not need any security update bc the phone is only for gaming.

I'll been receiving notifications every day I don't wanna see it anymore.

I refuse to update to pie.

Please help.

Settings>apps(system apps) and find the update app(I'm running a different Android version so mine is different so I don't know it's name) and then click on it's Data usage and disable it it using any data.

You can restrict any app's background data using this method.Hopefully that will stop it,"Calling Home" and getting the notification :)

Go to Settings>apps>app info>show system. Search for an app named "Motorola update services". Force stop and then clear app cache and data. That's it. It won't bother you with the notification till next boot. You have to repeat this once after every boot as the app can't be disabled as it could be in previous Android versions.

thanks for your advice but unfortunately it did not work 100% that only disables the notification of the status bar and still keeps opening the update program to install the update of the android pie.

What about automatic system updates in developer options?

As per my other post.Go back to the Updater app>Data Usage and disable the WiFi and Phone connections. That should stop it as it makes any app invisible to the Internet.

If you want total control using an app then install,"No Root Firewall" from the Google Playstore,

In Motorola Checkin, Notifications, and Update Services, I only see background data, no wifi. The dates there for all three makes me wonder if it'll turn itself back on every subsequent month.

I'm on a different version of Android so just disable the Background data(Basiclly same thing as I posted but variies from version to version) and see how it goes.I may or may not re-enable down the line but at least then you/we will know :)

How much time has passed since you saw a notification?

Re: How to disable update notifications for Moto g6

I also have been getting sick of the Motorola Update window interrupting highly frequently. I'm using Android 8.0.0, with the latest February 1st, 2019 update. But I did not want to update to Android 9 for a while anyway. Considering the numerous negative comments about Pie on the forums, I probably won't update at all.

On my G6, the option to clear data on Motorola Update Services is ghosted, and it will not force stop. However, there is a notification setting in the app info screen. (Settings > Apps & notifications > App info, then vertical menu in upper right select Show system, and scroll to Motorola Update Services.) App notifications > Software Update Alert was turned off by default when I kept getting the Motorola Update pop up window, which doesn't make sense. But I now turned off all notifications for it, and also turned off background data (in Data usage- I had to turn it off twice). More than once it attempted to do an unauthorized download of the update, so the background data being off I hope will stop that. It was over Wi-Fi though, and it seems this setting may only apply to cell data. If needed, I'll get a firewall to control it.

So far so good, for several hours I haven't gotten any more obtrusive update messages. Usually it doesn't go that long.
