X280 + USB-C dock: Screen freeze up after changing display mode to external display only

2019-01-29, 13:09 PM

Hi.

When X280 is connected to Lenovo USB-C dock with a screen on the dock, the screen may freeze after pressing Fn+F7 and select "external only" display mode. The issue is reproducible on Ubuntu Desktop 18.04.1 LTS running kernel 4.15.0-44-generic.

Workaround available by using kernel 4.15.0-43-generic. You may select it in GRUB bootloader.

If you cannot enter GRUB, edit /etc/default/grub to increase the timeout and run "sudo update-grub". Reboot and press Esc to enter GRUB when the screen turns purple.

I've submitted bug 1813763 on Canonical Launchpad today.

Thanks.

Update:

Canonical has released kernel 4.15.0-45-generic and the issue has been fixed.
