From what I see it appears that touch pad was broken in the 5.4 kernel, You could attempt a later kernel like 5.6 to see if it is fix or other users have downgraded to a 5.3 kernel to get it working until it is fixed upstream.  I do not have access to that touchpad to test if the later kernels fix the issue.

There is a workaround here: https://www.cnblogs.com/mikeguan/p/13126497.html

Unfortunately, that workaround does not work for the Legion 5 with the MSFT0001:00 04F3:3140 touchpad.

TouchPad and brightness control not working on new legion 5 either.

Lenovo! fix the **bleep** problem and prove you are different from the other crappy Chinese computer makers..

how is it possible that the company that used to build the best laptop in the World (and the reason why we spend a few more bucks than for buying other brands) answers that one of their best selling laptops is not compatible with Linux?!

very disappointed

Re:touchpad on Legion R7000 not working for Ubuntu

Hello,

The Gnome and KDE desktop interface teams have moved away from using X.ORG drivers.  Now they ship by default using WAYLAND drivers.   Also mouse input to WAYLAND uses evdev function of the Linux Kernel.  Since Gnome does not use Xorg, updating those drivers and even making program adjustments within Xorg, is not very successful changing Gnome behavior.

I have found a more seamless experience with my Lenovo using a different distribution of Linux.  Lenovo also supports RHEL, [Red Hat Enterprise Linux]  The open source version is Fedora Linux.  I have used Fedora on my Lenovo laptop for 3 years.  I have NEVER had a problem with the mouse pad, NEVER had a problem with HDMI, NEVER had a problem with wifi.  All of these features have been properly configured from Fedora Workstation install image.

I suggest you run an experiment, create a bootable LIVE usb of Fedora, plug it into a USB slot, boot from it, and explore what works on your machine.  Boot from UEFI BIOS boot mode.

The bootable USB image is here:  getfedora.org.    FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS FROM FEDORA on how to transfer it to the USB.  (Don't use rufus...)

It just works!
