debian installer will not run on brand new e560

2017-08-06, 19:13 PM

i just purchased a thinkpad e560, which comes with windows 7 pro, and i am attempting to install debian, as i have on every other laptop i have had (with no major issues).

when i insert the debian installation disk, it does display the boot menu. but when i select an installation option (or if i try to run the live disk), i get a bunch of terminal output - some of which looks almost like a stack trace.  when the output first stops scrolling, i see this at the bottom:

PnPBIOS: Disabled by ACPI PNP

if i wait a few minutes, more scrolling stack trace(-like) output, with the last couple lines being (i am transcribing, hope no typos):

[   140.348735] [<da58a583>]  ?  ret_from_fork+0x1b/0x28
Code: c8 01 e6 61 ....  (a bunch of what looks like machine lang)

i think the problem is related to the whole bios vs uefi and mbr vs gtp. i have tried changing bios settings, to no avail. i am going to try to convert the hard disk to mbr (from gtp), and see if that helps.

any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks!
