Re: PC sees Bravo as Removeable Disk, Not Phone

Just recently my pc began having a problem recognizing my Bravo as a phone.  Until then everything was fine.  Now when I plug my Bravo into a USB port, I hear a chime, but no window opens.  When I go to My Computer, the phone is shown as Removeable Disk (X:).  When I double click on it, a small window opens with this message: "Insert Disk.  Please insert a disk into drive X:."  Under properties, it appears as Motorola MB520 USB Device, a disk drive.  After plenty of research, I have tried changing the assigned letter of the drive--twice.  It did not help.  Every other USB device I own works just fine on my PC.  The only way I can access the phone on my PC is to turn off the pc, connect the phone, power on the pc, and then the phone appears as a phone.  When I connect the phone to another pc, the phone appears as it should.

PLease help with some suggestions.  The web seems full of similar questions relating to USB devices, but with little help.  Some research shows this problem may be related to Acronis on my pc, but another pc with Acronis on it can recognize my phone.  Could this be the result of disconnecting the phone without "preparing" the disconnect?  Now what?

Thank you for any ideas.

Re: PC sees Bravo as Removeable Disk, Not Phone

Are you using the menu on the phone (the pull down notification bar) to change the connection type from none, charge, mass storage, PC mode

Re: PC sees Bravo as Removeable Disk, Not Phone

Alpha, I had not been using the menu, just plugging my phone into my pc's USB port.  As before the problem appeared, when connected a USB symbol appears in the notification bar.  Upon reading your reply I plugged in my phone and pulled down the notification bar, switched to none, then back to USB Mass Storage.  No improvement in the situation.

Based on the fact that the phone appears just fine when plugged into my wife's pc, the issue must be with my pc.  Perhaps another clue:  when plugged into my pc, and when I go to settings and SD Card and Phone Storage, it shows the total space as unavailable.  When the phone is plugged in when I turn on my pc, the sd card appears normally.

Thanks anyway for trying.  I was beginning to think that this forum has totally died.  I imagine that is the ultimate fate.....as the pace of new phone introduction accelerates.  Bravo will be a dinosaur in a year.

Re: PC sees Bravo as Removeable Disk, Not Phone

Yes, now I must have PC turned off before I plug phone in--then turn PC on.  Then my PC can see the sd card.  A pain.......

The only music I have transferred from PC to the phone is in the form of ringtones.  These are short mp3 clips, which I simply drag over and drop in a ringtone folder on the phone.  This is one of the reasons I got an Android instead of an iphone.  Good luck making your own ringtones for an iphone.  They make it tough.

Good luck to you.

Re: PC sees Bravo as Removeable Disk, Not Phone

I understand the symptons, but i have not seen this myself.

Your PC Is basically seeing an unmounted disk. The equivalent of accessing a CD drive with no CD, or a card reader slot with no card in it.

Have you tried updating motocast?

Maybe try rescanning devices from device manager?

How about trying PC mode from the USB pull down?

Could some AV app be preventing devices from mounting correctly? Any settings there?

Also, are you connected directly to the PC - preferably a USB port on the back that goes right into the Motherboard? Are you using the Motorola cable that came with the phone?
