hey mate. which bios were you using? also does manual fan control work for you till now. Mine doesn't work for any keys anymore. Not ctrl+shift+1, no fn+q, no fn+o either. please help mate. it gets so heated up that I can't even use my "gaming laptop" for gaming

Workaround I have found in y540 when fans don't rev up is put laptop to sleep and then wake it, takes only 30 seconds and fans go max while gaming. Other solution when fans don't go max while gaming is to load bios from c drive bios folder but click cancel when it confirms to install. Fans go max if a game is running in background

Also it's really difficult to put the laptop to sleep during online game and turning it back on without losing something. It would really be helpful if there's any other way

I have updated my BIOS, repasted the CPU, and did all suggestions from this thread. Nothing helped. Annoying coolers switching on is still present. Why should I do this at all? I think this simple engineering task is too complicated for Lenovos's engineers and we have to use other brands.

believe me it's easy to setup the fan curve in bios but Lenovo engineers are not interested anymore because this laptop model is already old. So the point is that they do not want to fix something old because they want you to buy the new model .. understand the financial strategy ?!

Try this:

Get into BIOS and unlock Hidden Features - Fn + Tab, Fn + ASDFGH, Fn + O, F10 (Yes). This will restart the laptop. Enter BIOS again and you'll be seeing a lot of stuff now.

Go to Advanced > Thermal Configuration > Platform Thermal Configuration > Change "Actice Trip Point 1 Fan Speed" to around 40 (I think this is % of fan speed, by default is 70 if I remember correctly).

That way when the Fan kicks in it will not be that noticable but will still be cooling adequately for those lower temperatures and loads.

I have also undervolted my CPU but the above has the biggest impact.

Thanks a lot! Very cool trick! But I'm my case it doesn't help. Looks like the system just ignores those values.
