Re: Y460p battery draining too fast, also charging too fast?

I have an Ideapad 6-month old Y460p with a 6 cell battery. I have it set to only charge to 80% to extend the battery life. However, when I run on battery power, it starts out saying I have 3+ hours left, then in less than 40 minutes tells me I have 6% battery power left and have to plug in. Strangely, when I do plug in, it claims to be back to 80% in 18 or so minutes! Is my battery faulty?

Re: Y460p battery draining too fast, also charging too fast?

Hi CBFord,

please remove the battery and reinsert it again to make sure it's connected firmly.

Charge the battery to full 100% then use your Y460p on battery power until only 10 to 15% power is left,

shut it down then start up again and immediately press F2 key and keep pressed until it enters first BIOS screen.

Let it sit like that until the battery is empty and Y460p shuts off by itself.

This procedure will create a battery-empty reference.

Next plug the charger in and let it charge for a couple of hours, boot up and  make sure it's fully 100% charged.

Then run the laptop again on battery power only and hopefully you will get 2 to 3 hours of use until the low batt warning pops up.

Re: Y460p battery draining too fast, also charging too fast?

Hi Zehnsteine.

I have Lenovo Ideapad Z560. I have the same problem quick battery charging and quick discharging. And also the discharge rate is 26521mW.

Does battery Gauge Reset function helps or not?

Battery I have is 6-cell Li-on,

Re: Y460p battery draining too fast, also charging too fast?

Hi Anand,

please follow my battery reset instructions in above post, it's more thorough than Battery Gauge Reset function.

but be aware that the almost total discharging of a dying battery may give it the death blow.

Maybe you've to bite the bullet and buy a new battery after about 2 years of use :smileyfrustrated:...

Anand,

Battery capacity remains at almost 90%, not bad after couple years of use,
