P350 Tower Random Fan Failure Messages

When booting up my relatively new P350 I usually (I'd guess about 80% of the time) get a error code 0135 fan failure message in the BIOS. In the error message it lists a random selection of the fans in the machine. Like if I sit there cycling the machine it will change each time.

Anyone else run into this issue or have an idea what could be going on here?

I've tried the usual debugging steps for this of:

  1. unplugging and replugging fans.
  2. resetting the BIOS
  3. ensuring the BIOS is up to date

Nothing helps at all. Also note that the fans all spin and the computer will start up fine if I press F2 to supress the error.

Re:P350 Tower Random Fan Failure Messages

When the system boots the CPU fan is tested to ensure it is working properly, and that message is usually due to the CPU fan not reaching its maximum expected RPM, so if this is a new PC I would open a support ticket and have Lenovo send out a tech to replace the fan.

On some models you can also turn off the "Option Keys Display" on the Startup page in the BIOS and the system will boot past the error, but I personally would want the problem fixed under warranty.

I have also seen Lenovo release BIOS updates to correct erroneous messages, but do not see any update to resolve that on your model.

Best of luck,

Re:P350 Tower Random Fan Failure Messages

Have you checked to make sure all the fans inside the system are properly (and fully) connector to the appropriate fan headers on the motherboard?

If so, when you get the error message during BIOS post, press F1 to enter BIOS setup, F9 to load BIOS defaults, and F10 to save and exit BIOS.

Re:P350 Tower Random Fan Failure Messages

Hello @Stephenr,

Typically that kind of issue is possible to resolve by updating the BIOS, if you are already on the latest I would recommend trying to rerun the BIOS update from here and reseat a fan to ensure that seated properly. If the issue will remain I would suggest contacting the support if it is still under the warranty as @JDGIllis suggested.
