Lenovo Flex 5-1570 fan not working.

Sorry I'm not sure I'm posting this in the right category.

My fan started making this grinding noise, only working in short bursts out of nowhere after I tilted my laptop. I opened my laptop to clear out some dust and it seemed like my fan was out of alignment.  Put everything back together and it was working great for a couple hours but now its not running at all.  I tried running a diagnostic on the fan just to see and it was cancelled and said ModuleNotSupported.

Just wondering if I should just try cleaning it again, replace the fan, or if its part of a bigger issue.

Laptop is about three years old.  Everything is up to date.

If anymore info is needed lmk.

Thanks in advance,

C

Re:Lenovo Flex 5-1570 fan not working.

Hi,

Since you have already dissassembled the laptop to clear away built up lint and foreign matter, another reason for noise is loose screw at assembly or maybe a missing screw.  Did you use your System Hardware Manual to guide dissassembly method and processes?   It is available by clicking "SUPPORT" above and entering your system serial number.

Replacing the fan with a new one, purchased from Lenovo PARTS, encompass.com parts, or using the Lenovo part number on simple google search is also a common repair.

Please be aware, not all of the screws used are exactly the same size.  I found it is best to keep track of where the screws came from, and replace them one for one in exactly the same position as removal.  Perhaps the fan is not properly secured.  The hardware manual often specifies which size screw goes where, but the size differences are subtle to detect without measuring.

Sincerely,

Usedtoberich
