Re: missing driver with windows 8.1 installing or restoring

Hi all,

If I try to do a clean install of windows 8.1 the installation routine tells me helpfully that I am missing a media driver. The only way I could get round this was to create a USB bootablke disc and then add ALL the lenovo drivers that I have down loaded cfrom the lenovo site. This worked and it appeared to scan the USB drive and find whatever it was looking for. I'm still none the wiser as to what it was missing.

This problem is compounded when you try to restore from a backup image created in windows (I have a new drive and wanted to clone my old system). It finds the restore image on the external USB drive but can't seem to find the internal drive. This time however it won't scan a folder but wants me to provide the location of the actual INF file for the missing driver.

Can anyone help? I am assuming its the data/drive controller but I can't find it anywhere.

Thanks

Re: missing driver with windows 8.1 installing or restoring

hi kangarolf,

Just to verify, do you have a U310/U410 system preloaded with Windows 8.1?

If it is then your system most likely have an HDD+SSD on RAID and you will need to

check these options for you to see the internal drive:

Option 1:

Install the Intel Rapid Storage RAID drivers (see this article)

  - Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) RAID Driver

Option 2:

Boot into the BIOS and under the Configuration TAB, set the SATA Controller Working Mode from RAID to AHCI.

  - Link to picture

When done, press F10 to save and exit and observe if you can now see both internal/external drives.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards

Re: missing driver with windows 8.1 installing or restoring

Thanks for the reply. No I have a U330 that came with Windows 8. It has an internal Hybrid drive with a cache on it so no raid to worry about.

The windows setup/restore programs seem to have trouble seeing the internal drive no matter what drive I plug in (SSD, Hybrid, HDD), it will see them fine in the external enclosure.

Any ideas..?

Thanks

Re: missing driver with windows 8.1 installing or restoring

hi Rolf,

You most tikely have the Seagate ST500LX005 SSHD.

just to verify, using this guide as a reference, are you getting stucked at Step 7? Also, is the SATA Mode set to AHCI under BIOS?

When you get the prompt to provide the location of the actual INF file for the missing driver, can you consider the following:

1. Download the f6flpy-x64.zip file on either of the links below and extract it on a usb flashdrive.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=22194

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=22676

2. Before running the system image recovery, insert the usb flashdrive and locate the iAAHCIC.inf / iaStorAC.inf file on flashdrive and use this path when you get the prompt to provide the location of the missing driver.
