Yoga laptop portable external hard drives not recognised

About 1 week ago my Yoga 7 14IAL7 - Type 82QE laptop stopped recognising portable hard drives. They appear in Device Manager but not My PC, so I can't access files on them. Portable thumb drives are recognised. The hard drives all work perfectly on another laptop. The attached Screenshot shows 2xSeagate and 1xHP hard drives attached as well as a Lexar thumb drive. I've tried restarts, update drivers, Disable/Enable device and check for hardware changes without success. Disk Properties show Bus Number Target ID & LUN all at 0

Re:Yoga laptop portable external hard drives not recognised

Greetings @paulelsa.

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Please make sure that your system has the latest BIOS and driver updates using Lenovo Vantage app. Here's a link that contains a short clip on how to do it.

In addition, check if there are any pending Windows Updates (including optional updates) that needs to be installed. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > click on Check for updates then restart your machine afterwards.

If same issue persists, load the BIOS defaults by following the steps here: https://support.lenovo.com/au/en/troubleshoot/lpt000353 then reconnect the portable hard drives and observe.

Update us how things go.

Re:Yoga laptop portable external hard drives not recognised

Thank you Rodney. I actually managed to find a different solution. I found the drives in “Hidden Devices” in the app USB Safely Remove and noticed there were no drive letters for them. I manually added the letters and all is working. However I still don’t understand why the problem suddenly happened. However,  if it happens again I can use your solution to make sure it doesn’t happen again. But now that it’s working I don’t want to muck around with BIOS settings unless I have to.
