C940 15inch: Grey screen after Lenovo splash screen when plugging cable in since new Windows update

Dear community,

after updating my Windows 10 operating system to the Windows 10 OS build 20197.1000, I have the following problem: Every time I plug in my charger, the screen immediately turns grey. Regardless of what I do, it just stays this way, until I plug off the charger. When plugging the charger out, it shows the screen which was shown before within a few seconds. Only when starting the computer, it works until the Lenovo splash screen. Afterwards, the screen turns grey again. The issue occurred around one week ago.

I tried the following:

  • Restarting several times.
  • Updating to the latest Windows 10 OS, updating optional driver updates from Windows update and from Lenovo Vantage.
  • Keeping the laptop plugged out for 1min, holding the power button for >10seconds and then starting
  • Open "Device Manager" and searching for driver updates of the graphic card (which were not existent). However, in one post it was recommended to do so in the safe mode instead of the "normal mode" but this was not possible due to the following problem:
  • I wanted to start Windows in the safe mode by pressing F1 during startup. However, after doing so, first "Please wait while we install a system update" is shown for a few seconds without a change in the progress bar. At the top-left of the splash screen there is the following text: "Check power failure, please insert the power source or charge the battery." However, this is shown when the battery is fully charged.

Do you have any ideas on how I could resolve the issue or how I can at least start the laptop in safe mode?

Thanks in advance for your help!
