Screen Auto Dimming

I am a photographer and trying to edit photos while the screen brightness keeps adjusting is maddening. I've gone into the settings to solve it from online recommendations, Power Options>Change Plan>Change Advanced Power and my Lenovo Yoga 730-15 laptop does not give the option to change the adaptive brightness. Another article says if it is not within that menu, you have to create your own Custom Plan to address it. I thought this fixed it when I did it, but by the time I tried editing photos again after dark, the dimming started again. Doesn't matter whether it's plugged in or running on battery, same outcome. I'm not happy with this at all... solutions??

Re:Screen Auto Dimming

Hello @ stageandscreen6 !

Thanks for posting here at the Community Forums!

Does the issue only occurs when editing photos using your Yoga 730 laptop?

When did the issue started to happen? Did you make any changes to the device before the issue started to occur?

Also, please share here your Yoga 730 laptop's MTM (machine type-model) number for us to check its specifications as this would help us detail more about your machine variant while keeping the confidentiality of your serial number.

It can be seen through the device's label/sticker or its original packaging and does usually have a format of 8********R as an example.

Here's a link as well that also contains additional methods in obtaining your device's details.

Aside from that, please share here its current BIOS version/date.

Press Windows + R key then type in msinfo32 to open the System Information window and get the details from there.

Thanks,

Re:Screen Auto Dimming

I think it's always happened. A short time after getting this laptop new from Best Buy, I had to have it sent away because the screen was flickering. No issues since then, but since I've used it more for editing, I did notice the auto dimming more. Only seems to happen when editing in Photos. MTM is 81CUOOOBUS.

Thanks for providing your device's details @ stageandscreen6 !

What type of app are you using to edit your photo(s)?

Please try following the steps on this link and see if you'll be able to disable the Adaptive Brightness feature.

If this will not work, try updating your Yoga 730 laptop's Display/GPU driver.

Once updated, restart the device and see if the screen's brightness will still go dim/dark when in use.

Also, please try accessing the BIOS Utility Setup on your Yoga 730 laptop by pressing the Novo button that's located in the left-side view of the device.

Make sure that it is OFF first before pressing.

From there, check if the screen's brightness would also go dim/dark.

You may also connect the Yoga 730 laptop to an external display or monitor (if available) to see if the issue will persist.

Here's another link that contains additional steps that can be done towards this concern.

Update us how it goes.

Thanks,

Re:Screen Auto Dimming

I'm just talking about using Windows Photos for some simple editing. The Advanced Power Options Settings on my laptop does not have multiple options under the Display to choose from. Attached screenshot of the Balanced plan. After downloading Intel VGA Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - Yoga 730-13IKB, Yoga 730-15IKB, the screen brightness did stay full when plugged in, but on battery the screen still dims. Also the check box under Display that says 'Change brightness automatically when lighting changes' is unchecked.
