Re: Yoga 910 Shift Key Issue

While the Community had a solution for the poor placement of the Right Shift Key on the 710, it cannot be applied on the 910. After installing KeyTweak and attempting to run it, I received "Run-time error '380': Invalid property value." I worked with Best Buy's Geek Squad for hours. They tried every keyboard remapping tool they knew of, and nothing worked. Since we know there can be a relatively easy software fix to this problem -- which is clearly angering many customers, and presumably hurting Lenovo's revenues and reputation -- could Lenovo Tech Support or Product Management please provide the fix?

Re: Yoga 910 Shift Key Issue

Thank you so very much for your responses. Actually, while DragDay7 was posting the instructions for applying KeyTweak, I was working with SharpKeys again, per PaulProe's suggestion. This time it worked! I don't know what I was doing wrong the first time, but I think I may have been trying to switch Shift and PgUp, rather than Shift and the Up Arrow; or maybe I had the From and To backwards; I don't know. Anyway, I typed this without any Capitalization problems :-) We'll see what happens next time Windows updates.

Thanks again!

Re: Yoga 910 Shift Key Issue

Im looking for a fix that addresses this Issue.  Its not a deal breaker for me, but it sucks.  Hoping to find a solution that doesn't totally eliminate the up arrow button.

Re: Yoga 910 Shift Key Issue

Hey rweintra,

Basicly KeyTweak writes value into registry in order to swap those keys on system launch. It can be imported on different PC and should work with any Windows.

I've exported it from my Yoga 710, tried it on regular PC with Windows 10 and it works. Hopefuly this will help 910 users.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout]
"Scancode Map"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,03,00,00,00,48,e0,36,00,36,00,48,e0,\
  00,00,00,00

For sake of safety let any mod confirm that this file is safe and I mean no harm. I've included 2nd file if you wish to unswap it. This can be used by anyone. Still use at your own risk.

Reboot is required after applying it.

I hope you find it helpful.

Re: Yoga 910 Shift Key Issue

This forum demonstrates a remarkable amount of tolerance for an incompetent product manager and/or UX designer.  10 minutes is how long (if that) for me to kick myself for passing on an HP for this.  KeyTweak worked at first but 2nd reboot wiped it out remapping. I remapped successfully with SharpKeys and after 3 test reboots all seems well. And spidey101's response defending this (Nov 2015? IIRC) is inexcusable.  Had laptop in possession for 24 hours and already checked out return policy - it burns me up that this is still an apparent issue after being reported over a year ago.  I did go and find a reference to K/B Right-Shift issue in one review when I went and looked today.

Before buying this I spent hours comparing specs and opting for a mix that can support fast typing, Photoshop, etc work but spent more time today looking at HPs.  Asus seems to have inconsistent quality and the Envy is better than the Pavillion but the keyboard sure looks nice! >:-)

Re: Yoga 910 Shift Key Issue

I fully agree. I would not be able to use this had it not been for Sharpkeys and I still get tripped up occasionally.  I upgraded from a 3 year old Yoga that kept dying and I assumed it would be similar but I should have tested it in a store rather than buying online. I could not recommend this laptop to a friend and in fact warned 2 potential buyers away from them.

Re: Yoga 910 Shift Key Issue

I'm new to this forum.  I've owned a variety of laptops over the last 35 years, though never Lenovo/IBM. I have purchased and returned 3 HP Spectre 360's and 2 Dell XPS 2 in 1's in the last 2 months (issues with touchpad and touchscreens).  I LOVE my Yoga 910 2 in 1.  My ONLY complaint is the "right shift key".  I'm sure this has been asked and answered.  Why was it designed this way and is there a plan to possibly offer a physical fix, e.g. a new physical keyboard with a more traditional fullsize key?  Not sure that's possible.
