Hello Manny340,

We are glad to help. As per specifications, the Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 2 (20T6) supports up to 32GB of DDR4 3200MHz RAM. However, it is crucial to ensure that the RAM you purchase is compatible with your laptop. To find a comprehensive list of compatible RAM that has been tested by Lenovo for use with the ThinkPad E14 Gen 2 (20T6), you can use the Lenovo parts lookup page.

If you would like to look into repairing the system yourself, maybe some DIY? You can find part numbers for your system after entering the serial or type number on this site.

As I mentioned I used the ram recommended by Lenovo still see the black screen when I install 16 GB ram. As per Lenovo my laptop 20t6 can support up to 24. 8 GB is soldered I install 16 GB and it is not working should I use 8 GB instead of 16 GB?

Hello Manny340,

I apologize, but I was unable to find information about the RAM based on the picture you provided with all the characters showing. Is this information listed on our parts lookup page? If possible, could you provide me with the exact RAM model? Additionally, please ensure that you have properly seated the RAM in the slot and that it is securely in place, as this may help isolate any further issues.

Re:Ram option to upgrade E14 Gen2 20T6. Checked with Lenovo compatible ram but getting black screen

In the image one ram slot is empty and another one is 8 GB 32 Mhz soldered.
Yes, when I installed the ram I make sure that it fitted properly.
Can you let me know if this issue occurs because I installed 16 GB ram instead of 8 GB? Currently, 8 GB is soldered and I installed 16 GB 3200 Mhz. Should I install 8 gb 3200 MHZ?

Re:Ram option to upgrade E14 Gen2 20T6. Checked with Lenovo compatible ram but getting black screen

Hello Manny340,

Yes, a 16 GB DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM RAM module should be compatible with your Lenovo ThinkPad E14 laptop, provided that it meets the laptop's specifications. However, if you're experiencing issues with the RAM module, there may be other factors at play, such as a faulty module or a problem with the RAM slot.

To better assist you, could you please provide the exact model of the RAM module you are having issues with? This information could help identify any potential compatibility or technical issues and enable us to provide more accurate advice or solutions.

Re:Ram option to upgrade E14 Gen2 20T6. Checked with Lenovo compatible ram but getting black screen

I have tried almost 5 different brand Ram 16 & 8 Gb 3200 Mhz and seeing the same issue. I have installed Lenovo recommended ram as well but saw the black screen after the ram is installed. Seems like there is an issue with Lenovo board because everyone who are using thinkpad are unable to upgrade the ram. I have a question to you guys if the laptop keeps throwing an error even after upgrading the ram recommended by the Lenovo then what's the points of providing additional slot?

Note: I have update my bios setting and reset it as well after installing the new ram still seeing the issue.

Is there recall on thinkpad laptop to fix this issue?

Re:Ram option to upgrade E14 Gen2 20T6. Checked with Lenovo compatible ram but getting black screen

Hello Manny340,

We are sorry to hear that you are still experiencing issues with your laptop. At this point, it would be best to take it to a repair center as specialized tools may be necessary to identify the cause of the problem. With regards to the recall on ThinkPad laptops, to the best of my knowledge, there is no current recall related to the ThinkPad E14 Gen2 20T6 model. It is possible that certain RAM modules may not be compatible with this laptop model, even if they meet the manufacturer's specifications. If you continue to experience issues with your laptop, it is highly recommended to have a professional technician take a closer look at it.
