Thinkpad P16 gen 1 auto restart consistenly

I purchased this laptop in Feb 2023 (6000$+ SGD ~ 4500$ USD) at Lenovo Singapore with premium warranty & accidental dmg covered.

My laptop keeps restarting unexpectedly after 2-20 min of usage. It has been happening since day 1. After calling Lenovo, they asked me to do  Diagnostic Test in Bios (all passed) then subsequently do System Recovery.

I've done everything they asked but issue still persisted. They kept silent for 2 days. I called them again. They agreed to send out technican to replace SSD even though no guarantee that this will help to solve the issue.

Today a technician came & did the SSD replacement per scheduled, we installed Windows 11 using USB created by Lenovo Recovery Creator Tool. He left in the middle of installation., hoping everything is ok

Well, as soon as windows installation completes, the restart keep happening. Issue remains same.

I have no hope for this laptop & the way warranty work. They should collect the laptop & do whatever experiment they want instead of asking customer to do that.

I hope someone in this forum could advise. Thank you! I sincerely hope you could understanding my feeling :(

Re:Thinkpad P16 gen 1 auto restart consistenly

Hi Flatwhite!

This may suggest a different part that could be causing the problem, but would be best to contact the support team, for further discussion about the re-occuring issue on your device.

This will be helpful, as there's previous repair history within the warranty duration which involves parts replacement and issue still remains. They will check the repair history and look for other causes.

You may reach out to the support team or the nearest service provider available on your location, for further assistance.

Thanks Hector for your suggestion, I've just submitted another case to Lenovo Singapore (ticket 2011196976)

Based on your personal experience, would you suspect that it could be the mortherboard that causes the issue?

Re:Thinkpad P16 gen 1 auto restart consistenly

Aside from the diagnostic test, you can also check if this is something related to laptop temperature. Overheating may trigger a restart / shutdown, and we can check it using the HWMonitor tool to see if that's the case.

Running the tool while using the device would be the effective and accurate way to check the temperature.

Motherboard can be considered during the evaluation, so we recommend having a service specialist look into this further.
