Re: W530 Windows update, Lenovo Update, Camera/hokeys no longer work

Hello,

I've had my w530 for a few months.  Everything was working fine until a windows update, followed by a Lenovo Critical update completion.  My hotkeys, camera and on screen display are non functional or only partially functional.

What works:

Fn+F4 (sleep)

Fn+F8/F9 (Screen brightness)

On screen notification of Screen Brightness change

What doesn't work:

Fn+F3  (lock - to be honest, I don't know what it locks anyways)

Fn+F5 (bluetooth/wireless radios - there is an icon on the task bar which calls up the "on screen display for these)

Fn+F6 (integrated camera)

All other on screen displays

Integrated camera is completely inop

Unknown if functional:

Fn+F7 (Projector) - There is not even any indication saying "You don't have a projector connected" or something

Lenovo ThinkVantage (very hard to find, my older ThinkPads all had icons on desktop or start menu) says all my drivers are up to date.  Lenovo Service Center says no updates are needed.

I downloaded the Hotkey Integration Driver per many other posts in the forum.  I am unsure as to what other drivers to download.

When trying to run Hotkey Integ Driver or Power Manager updates/driver, the install package insists on pointing to C:\non lenovo folder*\Camera or PWRManager or Hotkey\    Why?  Should they not point to the default locations for these updates?

I have a client meeting (video call) tomorrow (Tuesday 28 August), I'll also need this rig for events on both Saturday and Sunday (weddings, this is my backup performance computer).

Specs:

W530

Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

i7-3720QM @ 2.6 GHz

16 GB ram

NVidia Quadro K1000M, driver 382.99

500 GB HDD

Thank you for your time, and quick response.

Karl

Re: W530 Windows update, Lenovo Update, Camera/hokeys no longer work

This issue is discussed here:  https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/Latest-Power-Management-Driver-Conflicts...

Lenovo engineering has confirmed that it seems to be a problem with the latest version of Power Management Driver. It has unintended harmful consequences with assorted seemingly unrelated functionality, both in Win10 and Win7, on multiple different laptops.

To avoid the problem, follow these steps to roll back the defective 1.67.14.05 Power Management Driver to the previous problem-free 1.67.14.04:

:

1.  Open Device Manager

2.  Expand "System Devices" category

3.  Double-click on "Lenovo PM Device"

4.  Click on "Driver" tab, and then click on the "Roll Back Driver" button.

I believe verion 1.67.14.4 is OK, but 1.67.14.5 is bad.

W530 Windows update, Lenovo Update, Camera/hokeys no longer work

Re: W530 Windows update, Lenovo Update, Camera/hokeys no longer work

Hello,
I have same problem after updating Lenovo Power Management Driver on W530 to 1.67.14.05.

To restore hotkey functionality you need to start these services: Lenovo Hotkey Client Loader, Lenovo Microphone Mute, On Screen Display. They depends on Lenovo PM Service and for some reason it can not start automatically on latest power management driver. The following entry appears in event viewer on each Windows startup "A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the Lenovo PM Service to connect".

I am using this batch file as temporary solution to start needed services, you should run it as administrator:

net start TPHKLOAD
net start TPHKSVC
net start LENOVO.MICMUTE

You can also make it running automatically on Windows startup by creating task in Task scheduler.

I apologize for the delay in responding; as I mentioned in my original post, it's been a crazy week.  Thank you very much for the fix DSperber, the rollback works.  All systems functioning within normal parameters.
