Thinkpad T16 BIOS update

My laptop went through the update. Got to 100% but now won't do anything. I can't shut it down or bypass it. It's a black screen with the Lenovo logo, shows a bar at 100% and says System will shutdown or reboot. But nothing happens. It has been over 1 1/2 hours. What can I do?

Re:Thinkpad T16 BIOS update

Hello barber5 and welcome to community forums!

I'm sorry to hear about the issue you're experiencing after the BIOS update. It seems like your system might be stuck in a loop. Here's what you can try:

  1. Force shutdown your laptop by holding the power button for about 10-15 seconds until it turns off.
  2. Disconnect any external devices connected to your laptop.
  3. Turn on your laptop and immediately press the F1 key repeatedly to enter the BIOS setup. If you're able to access the BIOS setup, reset the BIOS settings to default and save the changes.
  4.  Press the battery reset hole that is usually located at the bottom of the laptop.

If you're unable to access the BIOS setup or if the issue persists, I recommend contacting our technical support for further assistance. You can submit a service request here or get in touch with a Lenovo support specialist here. You can also bring it to the nearest authorized repair center: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/lenovo-service-provider

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Best regards,

Jwes_Lenovo

Re:Thinkpad T16 BIOS update

I'm having this exact issue tonight on my Nano X1 Gen 2. Was prompted to update my bios through Lenovo Vantage, did that, and got stuck on this screen.

Holding the power button does nothing. Absolutely nothing works to shut down the laptop. Going to have to wait for the battery to die and hopefully it'll start up fine.

I hope this isn't a widespread issue that plagues more users over the holiday week.

I will update once the battery dies.

Okay, battery died and it started fine after charging a bit.
