Boot issue and camera not detected after Bios Update

Hello! After the most recent Bios update: N3AET77W version 1.42. A number of users within our organization are reporting slower than normal boot times and no camera detection. Has anyone else experienced this isssue? I have updated the drivers on the camera and have also updated the OS. Additionally I have uninstalled the camera and reinstalled. Open to other suggestions. Thank you.

Re:Boot issue and camera not detected after Bios Update

Further update: laptop was still under warranty so I contacted Lenovo Support and the following steps seemed to fix the problem -

1. Please follow the steps on the following article to uninstall any recent Windows Updates which have been installed at the time when this issue started to occur: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/how-to-uninstall-a-windows-update-c77b8f9b-e4dc-4e9f-a803-fdec12e59fb0

> When in settings > Windows Update > Update History > Scroll down to "Uninstall Updates" > Uninstall any recent updates at the time of this issue happening.

2. Please try right clicking on the start menu and select "Device Manager" > Cameras > Right click on Integrated Camera and select Uninstall Device, please ensure to tick the box saying "Attempt to remove the driver for this device" then Uninstall > Please then install the below:

Camera Driver = https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n3acd16w.exe

MIPI Driver = https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n3ace31w.exe

View Driver = https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n3ald42w.exe

Then I got another email which stated:

In addition to my previous steps, please also install the following Lenovo MCU Firmware = https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n3acw02w.exe

I hadn't installed any recent windows updates but I reinstalled the drivers and maybe most importantly the new firmware. Now my computer seems to boot up fine and my camera is working again on the Camera app, Zoom and Teams (for now). Hopefully this is a permanent fix - seems to be working for now.

Boot issue and camera not detected after Bios Update

Re:Boot issue and camera not detected after Bios Update

Hi KDDM and welcome to community forums!

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing after the recent BIOS update. It seems like you've already tried some of the common troubleshooting steps. Which device are you referring to? Kindly provide the product number that would look like 21D20000US from the sticker or Vantage app. Are you running a custom OS or corporate image?

One thing you could try is to reset the BIOS to its default settings. This can sometimes resolve issues that arise after a BIOS update.

If the problem persists, try deleting the driver and then restart the computer before manually installing it from the support page, include the Lenovo View driver as well.

Let us know how it goes.

Re:Boot issue and camera not detected after Bios Update

I have the exact same problem. I have a ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 laptop and after updating to BIOS N3AET77W 1.42 there are problems with booting up my laptop (when it goes to sleep or when it is shut down, it won't start up unless I perform a reset by holding down the power button for 10+ seconds), Zoom was crashing my computer, and when Zoom finally did work, it could not recognise my camera. The camera feature also doesn't work any more - I open the Camera app and it brings up an error message saying no cameras are attached. I don't have an external camera, only the one installed on my laptop.

Could someone from Lenovo please assist?

Re:Boot issue and camera not detected after Bios Update

Hi Everyone.

Have X1 Yoga Gen7 and exactly the same problem after latest BIOS update.
Camera is not initializing.

Lenovo diagnostic tool is not able to pass the camera test. After failed test I see several device errors in the Device manager:
Integrated Camera
Intel(R) Camera Flash LED
Intel(R) UsbI2c Device - 2 times
Intel(R) UsbSpi Device
Lattice AI Device

Cannot update Lattice AI Device FW as well.
Have all the latest drivers.

Before BIOS update everything ran smooth with no problems.

Re:Boot issue and camera not detected after Bios Update

This is likely the same issue we've seen on some late models from Dell.

I have not verified this solution for Lenovo but if its a similar issue it might be worth a try.

Open Device Manager(As admin); click View and select Drivers by device.

Look for oemxxx.inf(cvfusbdfuextension.inf) or (cvfusbbridgeextention.inf ) Double-click the oemxxx.inf to find the version (looking for v3.1.0.7611).

You might see that there are two oemxxx.inf(cvfusbdfuextension.inf), then check which driver has v3.1.7611 and remove it.

Note: If you only see one oemxx.inf(cvfusbdfuextension.inf) and it is v3.1.0.7611 still follow steps to remove it.

Click Remove driver then select both the options and click Remove.

Wait a minute for the driver to be removed and scan again to confirm it has been removed.

Download and install the latest version of Intel MIPI Camera Driver for Windows from Lenovo.

For ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 (Machine types: 21CB, 21CC) and ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 7    (Machine types: 21CD, 21CE) Intel MIPI Camera Driver for Windows 11 (Version 21H2 or later), 10 (Version 20H1 or later) - ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10, X1 Yoga Gen 7 - Lenovo Support NO
Otherwise look up your model.

Re:Boot issue and camera not detected after Bios Update

Is this camera problem actually caused by the recent BIOS update or a recent Intel driver update?

Re:Boot issue and camera not detected after Bios Update

It might be a combination, new intel drivers might work on the older bios but not the new for example.

I just got the following reply from Lenovo support:

it seems to be related to recent Intel - Extension - 1.0.0.273 / Intel - Extension 3.1.0.7611 driver update.

We are working with technical support to get fix other then system reinstall/refresh (with keeping user files).

I will contact you soon with the resolution.
