Where can I get oem Ubuntu-20.04 image for Thinkpad X13 gen2

Lenovo certified with Ubuntu | Ubuntu

X13 gen2 has been certified with Ubuntu according to the link above, running 5.10.0-1022-oem kernel.

I wonder where can I get this image, because I ran into error several times when I installed original Ubuntu-20.04 image onto my X13 gen2 and it seems like the incompatibility between original 5.8 kernel and newer hardware causes the error. And I tried 21.04 running newer kernel and the installation succeeded smoothly.

Many thanks for anyone providing help, because much of my work needs to be done on ubuntu-20.04 and virtual machine isn't really what I want :)

Re:Where can I get oem Ubuntu-20.04 image for Thinkpad X13 gen2

Hi,

If you PM me I'll send you a link you can download the image from. I can't post it publically (and it tends to be short lived)

So just as a note Ubuntu cert doesn't mean an image is available - it means we've completed the Ubuntu certification requirements and met their standards. It is the biggest step to completing Linux enablement but after that we have to complete our own internal testing and energy certification testing.

The good news is that the X13 G2 has finished the full cycle. We don't have any systems available online yet (working on it).

Thanks, but I don't know how to install it :(

because the error occurs when I boot my computer using installation usb, I choose "try ubuntu" and the os can not even recognize my ethernet device

so I can't  "sudo apt update" and so on ...

Re:Where can I get oem Ubuntu-20.04 image for Thinkpad X13 gen2

Dear Mark,

I just bought a Thinkpad X13 gen 2 with an I5 processor.  Is there an image file for ubuntu for the exact hardware in this computer?  I'd love to have a dual boot system.

Thank you for your help!

Re:Where can I get oem Ubuntu-20.04 image for Thinkpad X13 gen2

Hi David,

There is - and I'm allowed to hand it out on a case-by-case basis (it's supposed to be for preloads only but Canonical have been very gracious and allowed me to help folk out as our web sales are still slow for releasing platforms).

If you PM me I can make it available but there are a couple of caveats:

 - I'm on PTO for a couple of weeks from tomorrow and travelling...so let me know today if you want it
 - The X13 G2 is a couple of years old so I would just install the regular Ubuntu image. All the support for our platforms goes upstream and there isn't anything special in our OEM image except for the documentation (and you can get that on the support site if you have insomnia).

The preload image by default wipes your system and installs the Linux preload image only (including the rescue partition). You can change the install behaviour but it's not really designed to be used for dual boot and isn't tested for that scenario. There's a risk that it might trash your Windows install and reinstalling Windows sucks....

Summary - recommend going with the regular Ubuntu image. If you have problems let us know :)

Re:Where can I get oem Ubuntu-20.04 image for Thinkpad X13 gen2

Dear Mark,

Thanks for the message.  I'll just try the regular ubuntu install in that case, its true that its a few years old so a lot of kinks should be ironed out.  I just read about the necessity for finding drivers for the Wifi and other pieces of hardware, and I was thinking how nice it would be to have everything all wrapped up in a single bundle.

Sincerely,

David
