Re: Displayport version and maximum resolution(s)

Hi.

I'm considering buying a TS140 server for use as a workstation (Software development using multiple virtual machines).

I'm also considering buying  a 4k monitor and would like to know if TS140 (70A4) supports 3840 x 2160 resolution at 60Hz. This requires a displayport version 1.2 but I havn't been able to find which version is on the TS140.

Kind regards

Jimmy

Re: Displayport version and maximum resolution(s)

Hello,

Here is the information requested:

The maximum resolution on the TS140 Display Port is 3840x2160 @ 60hz.  It does not support 4K resolution however, HDMI does support 4K resolution.

Displayport version and maximum resolution(s)

Re: Displayport version and maximum resolution(s)

Hello,

The TS140 onboard display port does not support that high of a resolution. There are two graphics cards that are supported on the TS140:

NVIDIA Quadro NVS 300, PCIe x16 adapter, 512MB
NVIDIA Quadro 600, PCIe x16 adapter, 1GB

However, they are not Display Port adapters, and the maximum resolution of the 600 is 2560 x 1600.

You would also need the 480W Power Supply to support an additional graphics adapter as the basic 240W may not have enough power to allow the card to operate properly.

Re: Displayport version and maximum resolution(s)

So what is the max resolution of the onboard displayport, and what version is it?

And your statement that 2 graphics cards are supported, does that meean that I can't use any other cards than those?

Kind regards

Jimmy

Re: Displayport version and maximum resolution(s)

The Display Port version used on the TS140 is version 1.2.  The maximum resolution depends on which processor is installed in the system.  It varies by the processor.  You can find more information on this by checking the PSREF sheet for the TS140 here.

Below is a snippet of which graphics are used for specific processor types:

The resolutions of each are not listed, however a quick search and you should be able to find what the maximum is for each.

Re: Displayport version and maximum resolution(s)

Hi again

This is how I thought it worked just wanted to check that the displayport (driver) hardware was 1.2.

Looking at the specifications for the Intel HD P4600 thats in the E3-1225 v3 of the SKU im looking at I can't get a definitive answer to if the max is 2560x1440 or 3840x2160 seems to depend on where I find the information.

Could you please give a definite answer to this?

What have you, Lenovo, tested the port up to?

Also I would very much like to know if it's possible to use any PCIe-16 card (That doesn't draw to much power) or just the one's you've validated ( as this is my backup plan if I can't get 3840x2160 working on the internal displayport).

Kind regards

Jimmy

Re: Displayport version and maximum resolution(s)

Why not Quadro K600? Or K620? Quadro 600 is EOL, 2 generations old ...

Also are you sure Quadro 600 by Lenovo has no DP? I think it has DP (link)

Edit: This document says that 4K resolution is supported by HD 4400/4600 and P4600/4700 ...

Re: Displayport version and maximum resolution(s)

That is the document I read also and like you say it seems 4k should work.
the problem is that I've seen 2560x1440 on some other sites, graphic cards comparison site, but it could just be that the motherboard they used only had hdmi out.
My hope is to get a definitive reply from someone who has tested this irl, preferably Lenovo.
Thanks for your support Toruk_makto

Re: Displayport version and maximum resolution(s)

I've asked the question as to what the maximum resolution for the on-board DP ports are. My mistake about the K600, it does have DP. Considering this is not in our system spec, I'm not sure I will get the answer, but I've asked.

Re: Displayport version and maximum resolution(s)

Hi again.

Thanks for passing on the question, I'm looking foreward to an answer.

In the meantime could you please answer me whether I can use other than the 2 mentioned graphics cards or if the BIOS has some lock in function preventing it.

Kind regards

Jimmy

Re: Displayport version and maximum resolution(s)

I can't tell you for certain if other cards would work or not, just the two I mentioned have been validated and are officially supported in the system.
