Re: Upgrade Ram and SSD

Hi, newbie here. I inherited an older lenovo ideapad 320-15ikb (MTM: 80xl000006us). EDit: Mfg date is July 11, 2017.

Id like to keep it since it has Windows 10 and MS Office suite.

Is it possible to upgrade RAM memory and SSD on this model? If so, what are the items I should purchase?

Thanks!

Re: Upgrade Ram and SSD

It is usually a benefit to add RAM if that is the bottleneck, but it depends on how much you have.  For many tasks, 8GB is a good amount.  You asked about an SSD upgrade, which I took for replacing the main drive.  For replacing the optical, I don't know what caddies are available or if it is possible.

Upgrade Ram and SSD

Re: Upgrade Ram and SSD

First, I would guess the manufacture date sometime in 2017, not 2011.  Format is YY-MM.  (not very old)

There is a DIMM slot that can take DDR4-2133 RAM.  Most brands will work but Lenovo-branded is safest.  Avoid RAM with "value" in the name.  There is a standard 2-1/2" SATA drive that can be swapped.  You are limited to those that are 7mm thick.

Thanks for the help.

Is it worthwhile to add RAM and/or swap the optical drive for SSD?  How much would it cost and is tthe result worth it?
